Maine Coon is the largest breed of domestic cat. The adults look like funny lynx with their tassels on the ears and massive legs, and have incredibly long and bushy tail. Breed name comes from the resemblance of these cats with raccoons, literally Maine Coon and is translated as "Manx raccoon." Originally the breed originated in America in the state of Maine.
Large males can weigh up to 8 kg and females up to 6 kg. There are exceptions, where some of the animals of the breed lines weighed almost 12 kg. In the 19th century the breed Maine Coon has been supplanted by the Persians cats, who was loved by many breeders of that time and the Maine Coons survived only because the farmers managed to keep these big cats.
